Knitting Instructions

Large Penny Bear Sweater

(We recommend Red Heart 4-ply yarns.)

Gauge: 5 sts = 1 inch

Using Worsted Weight Yarn and #7 needles, cast ON 40 sts
K1, P1, (Ribbing) for 4 rows.
Knit 1 Row, Purl 1 Row, (Stockinette Stitch) for 22 rows, or until piece measures 4 1/4" (see sweater dimensions page).
If you knit more than the 22 rows, be sure to add the same number of rows to the back.

Cast ON 10 sts and Knit these 10 sts and remaining stitches on needle.

At the other end of the needle, Cast ON 10 sts and K2, P56, K2 to end of row.

Knit 1 Row.

K2, P56, K2. Knit next row. Repeat these 2 Rows 6 Times.

K2, P8, K40, P8, K2. Knit across all 60 sts. Repeat these 2 rows.

K2, P8, K13, Cast OFF 16 sts, K11, P8, K2. (This DOES work!)

K22, Cast ON 16 sts, K22.

K2, P8, K40, P8, K2. Knit across all 60 sts. Repeat these 2 rows.

K2, P8, K40, P8, K2.

Knit 1 Row. K2. P56, K2. Repeat these 2 Rows 6 Times.

Cast OFF 10 sts, Knit to end of row.

Cast OFF 10 sts, Purl to end of row.

On 40 sts, Knit 1 Row, Purl 1 Row (Stockinette Stitch) for 22 Rows.

K1, P1 (Ribbing) for 3 Rows.

Bind OFF in Ribbing Stitch.
Sew together sides and underarms.
Feel free to vary the pattern with cables or other creative stitches.
